Where

This year, UKLUG is moving to London. We have booked the Chuch House Conference Center , in central London.

Church House has a long history of being a meeting place. The current building was designed by the renowned architect, Sir Herbert Baker, and the foundation stone was laid by Her Majesty, Queen Mary on 26 June 1937. The completion of the building took until 1940 and was officially opened by His Majesty, King George Vl, on 10 June 1940. The building suffered a direct hit on the Assembly Hall in November 1940 but due to the exceptional construction of the building only minimal damage was done. The Prime Minister of the day, one Mr. Winston Churchill, was so impressed by this fact that he requisitioned the building for use by the two Houses of Parliament when London was threatened by the Luftwaffe.
In fact the building was used for this purpose in 1940, 1941, and 1944. Many historic speeches and events took place within the building during this time and one in particular was the announcement, by Mr. Churchill from the stage of the Hoare Memorial Hall, of the sinking of the Battleship Bismarck.

Whilst UKLUG's speaches might not be quite so historic, Church House is easily accessible to all of the UK!

HOTELS
The UKLUG organisers can no more guarantee the quality of London hotels (having not actually stayed in them all) than we can make promises about the weather or the trains running on time. However, in order to assist you in planning your UKLUG travel and accommodation, we've assembled some resources below that will, we hope, help you to decide where to stay.

Business and smarter hotels on the 'South Bank' of the Thames: http://www.southbanklondon.com/page/wheretostay/
A number of the organisers and speakers will be staying here: http://www.parkplaza.com/londonuk_riverbank

For less expensive hotels, the nearest Travelodges are Southwark and Covent Garden. Alternatively, this site has some options: http://www.superbreak.com/hotel-directory/uk-hotels/location-VW.htm
NB. Although Victoria station itself is only a 15 minute walk from the conference centre, be aware that hotels that describe themselves as 'near Victoria station' might be further away than that.

If you're not staying within walking distance, then the conference centre is close to two tube stations and several bus routes (see above).
